Grocer’s Apostrophe

A5 Lined note paper with blue biro. Consistent use of the grocer’s apostrophe.

A grocer’s apostrophe is a spelling mistake caused by placing an apostrophe before the s of a plural word. In English, the plural form of a word is most commonly shown by adding an s to the end (e.g., “cats,” “bananas,” “pictures”). Don’t add your own apostrophe!

Christmas Shopping List

A Christmas shopping list.

Vibrant pink paper.

Some seasonal Christmas food here. Parsnips, nuts, ingredients for trifle. Even Xmas is listed as an item.

The list is from Morrisons yet some items have been specified to be sourced from Costco, Salmon and Pepps (peppers?).

This person enjoys an abbreviation, mushs = mushrooms, pots = potatoes, rasps = raspberries.

Cheeky Girls

A4 punched and lined paper, folded in half. Vegetarian list which raises a few questions.

Is this person going to buy aloe veras as in multiple plants of that kind or is this something else? Why are they under the section marked green veg (the same could be asked of fruits).

What is defended juice? Could be this https://purearth.co.uk/product/defence-juice-cleanse/

This list has another side to it. On the reverse are names of musical artists. Are these team names, categories, a play list? Further more, do the Cheeky Girls fit into this group?

Mouse Treats

Very nice neat handwriting here, lots of items fitted on a folded A5 spiral bound piece of paper.

Likely a mother of children at school age, with pets. Mouse treats, “kid’s” crisps/snacks, cookie dough, lollies.

Meat captured in a separate area of the list in large parenthesis. Chicken, prawns, muscles, bacon, ribs, sausages.

Orzo pasta suggests a cook in the house.

Male or female?

Toilet paper, tomato sauce, curry, milk, potatoes, fruit, bananas, apples, grapes, bread, ham, eggs, sausages, butter, ice creams, pizza, cream cheese, tena 40, kitchen soap, squash.

Three Cucumbers!

img_1975

Three cucumbers!  Nobody buys three cucumbers!  Maybe this hard working mum is also catering for the local cricket club and making sandwiches for the home and away teams.  That may explain why 3 loaves of bread and 9 bottles of squash are required. Actually the cricket season has finished here so there must be something else going on.

Lots of fruit and veg which is good to see but also lots of kiddie friendly meat products, chicken fingers, hot dog sausages, burgers and of course who could ignore the turkey jetti:

yeti

Lettuce, tomatoes, veg, mushrooms, apples, peppers, spring onions, cucumber x 3, bread x 3, squash x 9, noodles, chili sauce, paste, peas, gravy, hot dog sausages, milk, chick ham, butter, yoghurt, nappies, washing up liquid, crisps, water x 2, kids cartons, biscuits, crackers, deorant, shampoo, buble bath, burgers (kids), chick fingers, turkey jetti, belly pork, mince, roast meat, 4 meals.

Cheese, cream, apples, veg’s, dinner, ham hock, split peas.

Thanks Yvonne, if you find any more lists, please keep them coming!

Illustrated Shopping List

Wow, what a list. These people eat well with a variety of ingredients to make meals from around the world. They have a cat and children. The illustrations are great, I particularly like the little bird perched next to the cat biscuits. Lots of help from the children to make this shopping list.

On the reverse is soy sauce, garlic, ginger and comfort.

Whisky + American

This shopping list owner likes detail, 2 bananas precisely, “Kellogg’s”cereal rather than just cereal, “Ryvita Rye Crispbreads” when Ryvita would have sufficed.  In fact I think this list was written for somebody else to do the shopping, the numbers and brands are instructions.

Does whisky and American mean whisky and whiskey?

Tomatoes, Mediterranean vegetables x 1, strawberries, apples, bananas x 2, salmon x 1, sweet potatoes, milk, small red milk, bleach, rinse aid, kitchen rolls, bread, lime cordial, still water, Kellogg’s fruit and fibre (purple pack), Ryvita rye crispbreads, whisky + American.
