Matches and Soda Crystals

A donation to the shopping list archive from Oxfordshire in the UK. This list is likely from an older person.

Clues:

  • Sherry
  • Tinned food
  • Evaporated milk

This person owns a cat, has use for matches (open fire, smoker, gas hob?) and sometimes suffers from indigestion. Coffee was an after thought on the list and written in a different pen.

Soda crystals are used for cleaning.

Christmas Shopping List

A Christmas shopping list.

Vibrant pink paper.

Some seasonal Christmas food here. Parsnips, nuts, ingredients for trifle. Even Xmas is listed as an item.

The list is from Morrisons yet some items have been specified to be sourced from Costco, Salmon and Pepps (peppers?).

This person enjoys an abbreviation, mushs = mushrooms, pots = potatoes, rasps = raspberries.

Lighter Long

A4 Lined, spiral bound, folded. Black biro.

A short list of items, maybe somebody planning a barbecue for Saturday. They need fire lighters and ‘lighter long. Maybe this is long matches or an actual long lighter.

Speculating, they needs rolls for sausages and burgers and maybe a salad to go with it.

Cake for afterwards.

Central Reservation

Interesting to see a centre justified list. Items are bunched around a mostly invisible centrally vertical dividing line. Although in some cases, Ham | Chicken are visibly separated with a vertical bar.

A5, lined and spiral bound paper.

Dog and cat owner, smoker?

Doritos are listed as well as tortilla chips. Hmm.

On the back of the list is a date “Wed 22nd, 2:30pm”.

Choc Dig

White paper, 145mm x 100mm, cut with scissors. Staple torn from upper left indicates that this sheet was once not alone.

This person has a sweet tooth. Items include Choc Dig (what is dig?), custard cream biscuits, cake and ice cream.

After all the sweetness, this shopper was planning the main meal. Diced beef has been crossed out and replaced by chicken thighs, to be served maybe as a stew with vegetables and mashed potato.

Fags – Flowers

A tiny piece of note paper, spiral bound. Blue biro.

Fags, lighters flowers, milk, bread, eggs, corned beef, cheese biscs, mints, cakes and Sun Newspaper. I think the work Newspaper is likely redundant.

Aldi, Reading.

Cereal Offender

A family of four with a toddler and a cat demand a lot of shopping.

This list looks to be shopping for a week with main meals consisting of sausages, fish cakes, mince and chicken served with sweet corn and chips and potato waffles.

Desserts include muffins, crumpets, cakes, yoghurts, custard and cereal bars.

Snacks encompass a number of types of crisps together with chocolates, Jaffa cakes, raisins and Baby Bels.

Breakfast will be well catered for with a number of types of cereal. These are Krave (HN), cinnamon, HN Clusters and something abbreviated to BG. I am not sure what BG is but I am guessing the HN stands for Honey Nut. This is quite an array of sweet choices.

Location and date found not recorded.

Mum, I Snapped Your Hairbrush

Here’s a good one.  The front of the list is great, strange use of ‘z’ for plurals and a few unknowns but it is the back of the list that stands out – scroll down!

How nice.  I hope Mum was happy with the replacement and the kind note.

Salad, fruit, veg, pots, onions, cereal, rice krispies, cheese, ham, t bags, cake, crisps, choc bars, bread, ???, mayo, ???, tuna tinned?, tinned beanz?, tinned toms, eggs, passatta, cheese sauce, bubble bath, golden syrup, juice, butter, t rolls, k rolls, pasta, kidney beanz, stock pots, plenty of ale?

Bannans

Kindly dontated by Andy.  This shopping list was found in a Sainsbury’s in Oxfordshire. This is a bit traditional with lard, sprouts and tinned fruit but the item to note is the Bannans [sic].
