Mystery Shopping List!

This shopping list has been kindly submitted by a contributor. She says:

“Here is one I found being used as a bookmark inside an Agatha Christie novel I found in a charity shop in Oxford.”

“There’s nothing on the back of the list.
The fourth item: is it “more glasses” ?!”

There is rather a large, circular hole in the upper right corner of this paper. I have a feeling that this list may be from somebody doing some shopping for an office kitchen. Hence these rather none personal items and the line item – more glasses.

The book is still in print, albeit with a different cover: https://amzn.to/40f4Aye

What a great find, thank you very much!

Not Just Any Ready Meal, an M&S Ready Meal

A contribution to theshoppinglists.com from a kind contributor in Oxfordshire, England.

The owner of this list does not look to be much of a cooking type person. They are going to buy meals for Saturday and Sunday, and then a further 4 meals after that. There are not many cooking ingredients listed.

As well as getting their meals from M&S (Marks and Spencer), they are going to pop into Robert Dyas for some ‘tool cleaner’. I wonder what that is.

Matches and Soda Crystals

A donation to the shopping list archive from Oxfordshire in the UK. This list is likely from an older person.

Clues:

  • Sherry
  • Tinned food
  • Evaporated milk

This person owns a cat, has use for matches (open fire, smoker, gas hob?) and sometimes suffers from indigestion. Coffee was an after thought on the list and written in a different pen.

Soda crystals are used for cleaning.

Biscuits and Cookies

A shopping list written on what looks like an upside down page taken from a diary. Red biro.

The author has written biscuits and cookies. I presume the differentiation is the biscuits are pre-packaged hard types and the cookies are the larger softer doughy variety.

Also on the menu are milk, cream and cough mixture.
