Shopping List Analysis

I thought it about time that I started to interpret some of the shopping list data on a wider scale rather than looking at the individual lists.

Below is a graph showing the top shopping list items by percentage of lists that they appear in.  The staples of milk, bread, potatoes and eggs appear popular but the surprise entry in the top 5 is crisps (potato chips).

Top Shopping List Items.jpg

Fruit and vegetables are placed at position 10 and 12.  I would assume people always buy these and don’t always spend the time listing them.

Meats by popularity are chicken, bacon and sausages.  Beef, Lamb and other meets do feature but they are further down the list.

In terms of non food items:

Kitchen towel/roll is popular appearing on over 16% of all lists.  Washing up liquid has its rightful place as do toilet rolls.  What ‘wipes’ entails I guess is more ambiguous but they are certainly popular.  The data suggest that cats are more popular than dogs – or they eat more.

Comments, as ever, are welcome.

All the way from… Comox, BC, Canada

So much to say here.

  1. What great note paper.
  2. The ingredients for a classic paella.  Hola paella.  This is a one meal shopping list belonging to somebody who enjoys cooking and probably goes shopping often through the week rather than doing one large weekly shop.
  3. What is app?? Apples or something a bit more high tech?
  4. Last but not least, this is now the third continental contribution to TheShoppingLists.com Many thanks to Yvonne’s’ niece in Comox, British Columbia, Canada.  We now have lists from the UK, Australia and Canada.

Hi Yvonne, or Yvonne’s niece, could you let me know in which shop this list was used?

Dinner: chicken, shrimp, chorizo, onion, Spanish white rice or arborio, saffron, mussels, pimento, bread, garlic, app??, lemon.

Peppa Pig World

This is a well organised person.  They have meals planned for each day of the week.  In fact this list was also used in the previous week when they had pork shoulder on the Sunday.

The highlight to look forward to is of course Peppa Pig World on Friday!

Nice owls.

Great Hand Writing

Firstly, what great writing.

This list, I presume is for two people, maybe code named D and W? There is some mixture of upper and lower case writing and the common grocer’s apostrophe.

Crisps, beer, wine, D|ginger, bread, D|W|Tablets, oxo’s, chicken oxo’s, washing liquid, fruit, veg, curry sauce, rice.

In answer to the question, what is Oxo:

Wow, what a list. These people eat well with a variety of ingredients to make meals from around the world. They have a cat and children. The illustrations are great, I particularly like the little bird perched next to the cat biscuits. Lots of help from the children to make this shopping list.
